Public Advocates has a history of promoting transportation justice and equitable investment, including successful advocacy aimed at:

  • Promoting the mobility of low-income transit-dependent residents and communities by, e.g., increasing funding for transit operations to improve local bus service, or providing free or reduced-cost transit passes
  • Improving public engagement processes by, e.g., incorporating Participatory Budgeting (PB) in transportation and climate investment programs
  • Ensuring compliance with civil rights and Environmental Justice requirements in transportation
  • Promoting equity in regional or county transportation planning
  • Ensuring that transportation and climate investments benefit, and do not harm, low-income residents and communities of color
  • Protecting low-income communities of color in connection with “new mobility” issues such as ride-sharing and electric and autonomous vehicle technology
